Brown: getting past stupid

Saturday, January 23rd, 2010

I suspect that the Talk Show Mafia and pundits are correct…Brown isn’t a conservative.  Not in the “can’t win” way they insist in Tancredo, Santorium, Hayworth and others that couldn’t keep or gain their seats.

See, none of these understood one fundamental fact:  when you become the senator, congressman, governor, president, you represent ALL the people, not just your base.  If a candidate tells Independents and Democrats that they will push for an agenda and principles that these groups do NOT share or agree with, why on earth should they vote for the candidate?

Brown made his positions on key issues well known, issues SHARED by most.  They weren’t Liberal issues, they were issues that affected most of the people in MA and issues MOST cared about.  And to show just how past stupid this man is, he deliberately gave all sides the impression that he was willing to listen and learn for the good of MA and America by giving due to BOTH parties leaders.  His 200k miles truck told the voter that he KNEW how to stretch a dollar.  His kidding with his daughters endeared him to fathers (and grown kids) around the nation; he was just like them.

And when he stared right at the camera and said that there are some things that there is no negotiating…like the economy and the war on terror…millions of MA voters felt justified in crossing party lines.

More importantly, millions in other states, all across the nation forgot about how the party of Republicans had so disappointed their “base. ”  This was like seeing a new smart phone…and thinking of changing back to an old carrier that really wasn’t that bad.

The only thing the party of Republicans–and those who support them–has to do is be there when the Malkins, Becks, Ingrahams, and their minions are trying to close the door and give all those Independents and cross over Democrats a conservative litmus test.  Tell them to step aside, the ONLY viable party that can stop the Dems as Brown stopped Obamacare wants to get off stupid, thank you.

Feeling Conned?

A few weeks ago, Hugh Hewitt ran an ad telling his listeners how the GOP can start winning elections again…number one on his list: DROP BASHING ILLEGAL MEXICANS.

Yesterday, in the middle of a tirade about this spending bill and California’s rush to tax he and others out of the state, he said, “we have serious problems and all you wanted to talk about was ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION!!!

Excuse me?

This was the man who based on hearsay, went on a personal crusade to dump the GOP created “amnesty” bill.  Didn’t matter that tons of guest (including Senator Kyle–one of the most conservative politicians in Congress) explained that the bill was trying to correct holes in the present immigration laws…all Hewitt and company wanted to hear was that the Mexicans were going to be round up and carted back to the SOUTHERN border.  Anything less was, AMNESTY.

It wasn’t as if Hewitt didn’t know better.  He spent a good portion of 2004 telling his listeners about the GOP being sent to the political wilderness in California after trying to push thru a bill that would prohibit social services to illegal Mexicans.  He KNEW that those 12 million illegals had American voting family and friends and the kind of vitrolic rhetoric wasn’t going to go over with a generation that had grown up with the Berlin wall and seen clips of people being “rounded up and taken away”.

He KNEW that the Dems would raise taxes, find constitutional reasons to ban guns and support gay marriages.  He knew that a Dem president would cause another 9/11 by his refusal to take the war on terror seriously.

He was counting on “smart” conservatives to have their little fit and come together when it counted and vote GOP.

He is now counting on those same conservatives to forget that he was right there in the middle of making Bush and the GOP focus on illegal immigration instead of Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae and Social Security…and writing a column of the wisdom of teaching the GOP a lesson by having a term or two of a Democratic Congress.

I’ve even heard him say NOW how he likes Ingraham and Coultier…but perhaps other women, strong GOP moms pushing less caustic issues might bring people back to the GOP.

Feeling conned?

Yeah, you were.

Don’t get me wrong.  I am glad that Hewitt and others are coming back to logic and sanity.  But they have a lot of credibility to rebuild.  They should begin with…I was wrong…and I will make sure that I never stand on the wrong side again.

Wow–the truth behind the illegal immigration issue

Friday, March 7th, 2008

Hugh Hewitt comes on after Michael Medved and once in awhile, I catch a few minutes of his show.  Today, I allowed a little extra time because Karl Rove was his guest and I wanted to hear what this political genius had to say.

Somewhere in the interview about Obama and McCain, Rove said that in almost every speaking engagement, someone brings up the illegal immigration issue–and faults the lost of Congress on Bush’s adminstration’s failure to “secure the borders”.

Of course Hewitt was in total agreement, but Rove asked the same question he has asked everyone who has brought up the topic.  “How many illegals do you think this adminstration has deported since 2002 (after 9/11)?”  To be perfectly honest, I don’t know what Hewitt answered because he sort of did a “I’m a party guy” without being supportive (those who have heard Hewitt knows what I mean).  But Rove went on to say that most people answer, “around a hundred”.  One guy gave the answer “100,000″ to howls of laughter by the audience.

Karl Rove then gave the real answer: 1.3 million.  Yep that MILLION with a “M”.

He told Hugh about the triple budget increase for border control…quad increase in border guards and staff…and 12 times the amount of holding areas for illegals.

“I know,” he told Hugh, “what you and many of your radio talk show friends have been saying, but facts are facts.  THIS adminstration has done more in 7 years than the 30 plus years this nation has been dealing with illegals.”

I immediately called and asked a colleague the same question.  He had complained bitterly about this president and blamed the lost of Congress on Bush’s failure to secure the borders.  When I gave him the number he was silent.  Finally he said, “Wow, that’s a lot.”  He sounded young and a bit shaken.  He loved Hewitt, Ingraham, Rush, Hannity, Prager…the whole talk show mafia.

“Who gave you that number?”  When I told him Karl Rove, he asked what Hewitt had replied.  I told him the truth, that I don’t really know because I didn’t understand Hewitt’s answer.

“1.3 million,” he said again, “Wow.”

The Flawless Diamond

Saturday, February 23rd, 2008

In every group I have ever become involved in, there is almost always a period where a number of people will try to put down specific rules that end up alienating almost everyone.  This happened with radio talk show, discussion groups, and is now happening with ”grass roots” internet bloggers.

Before we get into the rant, let me first explain the why.

I am an observer; it is part of the tools I use to determine the target market of products being pushed.

In the case of the people on the Right and the “product” of conservatism, most have never been part of the inner circle in school, on the play ground, in any social environment.  This is primarily due to their lack of being “average” or should I say, their uniqueness.  People that lean Right in ideology tend to see the whole picture not just the flavor of the month.  They are frequently the first (and only) one to say, “but why?”  The socialist accept and as such are more likely to be accepted.

For many on the Right, talk show and forums like Townhall was their first real venture into the world of social fellowship.  It is literally as though they were in a foreign land and came across one and then dozens of people who spoke English!

At first, it’s a party and life is full of intellectual stimulation.  They end up spending hours blogging, chatting during what should be family time and then checking emails during reports and presentations.

Eventually, someone remembers the great Liberal accomplishments, tasks only possible through unification of the masses.  Imagine what could be done if we combined the intelligence and talent of OUR people…!

And they start to “suggest” and one rule is laid down…followed by another…until words like “real” and “true” start to creep into the body of emails and post.

They do not understand the market.

People on the Right and those who lean toward that ideology are by nature strong and independent.  In order to do what the Left does, you need one or two strong people…and a whole bunch of people willing to follow.

For far too long, the TSM (talk show mafia) has pulled a Liberal on their listeners.  I have said over and over that the GOP would be sent to the political wilderness unless these people are taken down.  It looks like this is finally happening.

Not a moment too soon is my heartfelt belief.

In it’s place seems to be growing an effort to unite and “do what Obama’s people do”.

First off, Obama’s people isn’t the grass root, pajama blogger trying to spread the word across the net.  Obama has Oprah for God’s sake.  And half of people who make Romney’s check book look silly.  We couldn’t “do” what Obama’s people do if we tried.

Second, the TSM has tried the guilt, the exclusion, and then the threat thing.  It DIDN’T work for Romney.  I am known as the person to see if something absolutely has to be done.  My “services” comes with a price tag…I don’t do “push” well.  Tell me what you want and IF I agree, leave me alone to do it.  Treat me like an adult that you trust to get the task accomplished or go see a kid that you can micro-manage.

Third, in the world of retail, the jewel, the “flawless diamond” is the consumer “word of mouth”.  A quarter of a century ago, a little film trailer ran before some movies in the theater; they did not run t.v. ads.  It was different…kinda fun…and some people who like that sort of thing, went to see it.  Five or Six sequels later, Star Wars continues to make zillions for George Lucas.  How did this phenomenon occur?

Word of mouth.

In this, the net is tailor made.

Fourth, it is HUGELY tempting to UNITE unknown little bloggers.  Look what they did to Dan Rather and the MSM.  The problem comes when uniters keep trying to be like their failed counter parts instead of customizing the product to fit their unique market.

Most blogs on the Right are a fiefdom unto their own.  They love being agreed with and quoted; some even enjoy great disagreements and discussions.  They will write reams and reams of post if encouraged and comment on tons of other blogs to continue the network.

But they will not be dictated to.  Not even for “uniformity” or “professionalism”.  Most are like the small time preacher, who would love a large white stone building to give their sermons but would be happy enough to preach on the street if they could avoid asking for donations.

Once upon a time, most of us had one overwhelming focus…9/11 and making sure that it never happens again.  We were one nation then and when half forgot or rather, put their influence before the good of the nation, the TSM was only too happy to keep hammering away the message.

But some where along the line, Rush, Hannity, Ingraham, Hewitt put ratings above the safety of this nation and joined the MSM in bashing the only man the terrorists feared.

In February of 2008, McCain and the REAL Republicans and practical Independents took back the GOP.

Let us not, in March of the same year tearing it apart.

Let us remember who and what we are.  Small time preachers happy to spread the word of McCain and his determination to win the War on Terror.  We can do this without asking for donations to the cause…if you leave us alone, we will GIVE you the most precious gift we have, the flawless diamond known as word of mouth.

Forgiving the TSM- a post from Outside The Box-2/10/08

Sunday, February 10th, 2008

Hewitt has called for unity.

Ingraham, I’ve been told is no longer bashing McCain.

Am I glad?  Yes, of course.

Am I surprised?  Not really.

These are not stupid people.  They may have acted with extreme stupidity, but they are not dumb.

They know, KNEW even back then that the bashing of Bush and then McCain may get them headlines…it may make them more acceptable to the MSM, but it was a LOSING deal and would hurt the only viable party that is serious on fighting the WOT.

They even knew that the “base” was not the very vocal people who were calling their radio talk show–or those who had the time and the energy to write hundreds of posts on TH and Red State.  (This was Rush’s first piece of advise to Medved).

But the name of the game was ratings–and ratings don’t come unless, like the strippers in the movie “Gypsy Rose” say, “you  gotta have a gimmick”.  So they went on and on about illegal immigration and twisted words that would make Bill Clinton proud…like “amnesty” and “real conservatism”.  Hewitt even told his listeners that Proposition 187 KILLED the Republican party in California and warned that anti-illegal rhetoric could really hurt the GOP.

For MONTHS, the Talk Show Mafia assured their listerners that the majority of Americans were angry about illegals…even after Santorium and Hayworth LOST…even when Hunter and Tancredo was unable to garner any support…even after state after state rejected born-again border control advocate Romney.

People living in California and Arizona assured the “base” that people in their state were going to hand anyone that wasn’t as passionate as they, their heads.

Instead…California handed McCain hundreds of delegates.

And made clear that:

The REAL base had other things on their mind…like the WOT and the economy…both of which McCain was strong on.

Hewitt, Ingraham, Hannity, Rush DON’T speak for the “base”.

And most importantly, if you don’t play nice…you don’t get to play.

Right now, I think the TSM is trying to figure out how to get back into the game.  How to regain their credibility and most of all, to be seen as the person with power and influence–everyone likes a winner.

Here is my suggestion.

1-    Take a look at Medved who put intellectual honesty above everything else.  His opinions and his views may not have been popular but they were based on sound logic.  The next time they want to jump on a wagon of bashing and bullying, they need to ask if the temporary hike in ratings is worth destroying the only party that is serious about winning the war on terror.

2-  Look up the words…”loyalty”, “support”, and for the love of God…”amnesty”.  There was a reason that mothers taught their children to “be truthful and faithful”.  Lies and treachery ends up bitting you in the butt.

3- If you’re going to claim to be a member of a party, try to look for the positives in your leaders and your fellow members…your enemies are all too happy to find and point out the negatives.

4- Above all, FOCUS, as Medved likes to say “a laser beam”, on the IMPORTANT issues that effect ALL Americans: the war, the economy, and the courts.

And lastly, remember that whoever becomes the president, becomes the leader of ALL Americans, not just those that agree with your ideology.

Unfortunately…I don’t think anything will change.  The TSM and their minions may call for unity.  But if McCain wins, they will spend the next 4 years bashing him as they have Bush.

They do not care if this causes the lost of the WOT or the world crashes and burns…they are no better than their MSM counterpart.  It’s all about ratings…THEIR ratings.

In the end, I believe that the only way, the GOP will survive, and because they are the only party serious about the WOT, the nation and the world can survive– is if the TSM is cut out–like a cancer.

Here’s hoping that after the surgery, there’s enough time for the party to recover.
