The Truth about The Tea Party

Saturday, April 17th, 2010

On Tax day, a local conservative Radio talk show host had on a guest from the national tea party.

It began with the usual discussion on taxes and the role tea party groups’ hopes to play in getting our leaders to listen to the ordinary tax payer.  It wasn’t ranting or even complaining; the guest was calm, articulate, and rather professional.  She stated simply that a large group of Americans do NOT pay income taxes and if there should be a redistribution that is FAIR, the method of personal income taxation needed to be overhauled.

As I mentioned, her approach was very matter of fact, stating data with very little opinion, allowing the listener to draw their own conclusion. At the end, she also shared a piece of unexpecteed information: it seems that the tea party organizers had spent months running an internal poll among those attending townhall meetings and protest marches as well as those that emailed and donated money.  These were the results:

1- Most did NOT claim affliation with either Conservative nor Liberal parties.

I have written that I believe most tea partiers are INDEPENDENTS, that majority both Dick Morris and Karl Rove have mentioned needing to win elections.

2- Most do NOT share the passions of conservatives…some are pro-life, pro-marriage, and pro-gun, but not to the point where these issues would be a voting deal breaker.  The 3 issues they DO care about, the issues that bring them together are: Healthcare (makes sense since the average age of tea partiers is 56 which makes them knocking on the retirement door), trillion dollar deficits, and terrorism.

Strangely, these are the 3 issues that the GOP and Bush was great on.  Yes, even the deficits…remember that GWB’s 8 years saw us thru 2 recessions with the best economy in a quarter of a decade and near zero unemployment.  Remember also that the fall of the economy in 2008 was foreseen and that is what GWB wanted to spend his political capital on instead of illegal immigration.

 3- They LIKE GWB!!!

Yep, a majority liked GWB and miss the stability he brought.

It was the last bit of news that most disturbed the host as he, like Hannity and Hewitt had spent the last 5 years “being honest” about GWB’s sins. (see my previous post about conservatives believing that if they turn on their leaders, the liberals will do likewise).

And now, he and a number of conservatives know…those years when they were “smart” enough NOT to dump on Huckabee, Romney, Palin, Rudy, and a host of other conservatives for fear of offending their supporters…the group that they SHOULD have feared offending were the Independents…who LIKED GWB…

And it is often mentioned, the group LIKES McCain.

Anyone involved in getting out the vote for Republicans KNOW that they cannot win without this group.  Let’s see if they can now get off “stupid”, close ranks, find “loyalty” among their principles, and put the party of Republicans back into running this nation.

The Price of Honesty

Saturday, March 27th, 2010

I’ve noticed that some callers on the various talk shows have started to preach what some of us has for 5 years…Sandra from “A Word to the Wise”…Cindi from “The Pink Flamingo”…Sheila from “One Eighty”…that only in unity will the GOP win. One caller whined about the purist who insisted on staying home rather than vote for “that RINO McCain”.

Medved corrected him stating that the SAME amount of those called themselves conservative, who voted for GWB, ALSO voted for McCain. It was that all important Independents that moved to the Dem camp that gave Obama and his gang the victory.

Michael hasn’t thought this out. The question is WHY has Independents moved to the Left (other than those who just liked the idea of a Black president?). Could it be, is it possible, that those who claimed to be the base of the GOP while not having the numbers to actually bring victory (or deny it) to their candidates, CAN, by ADDING their numbers to the Left, convince the Independents that there is nothing worth voting for in the Republican party?

Anyone who has watched the media in action and understands the opinion making role of advertisements knows that you CANNOT sell something by tearing it down.

That is why, if you care about government take over…if you fear kowtowing to our enemies…if you are concern about our children’s future…if you care one iota about America, then stand with the Republican party and fight for her majority in Congress and the take back of the WH.
If you’ve never played party politics you need to start doing it NOW. Think of the GOP as you would America…do you see anything good coming from complaining about her faults to the world? Of course not, so why on earth would you think it is fine and upstanding to keep reminding Independents what a crapping job YOU believe GWB, McCain, and the party of Republicans have done in the last 8 years???

If ANYONE uses the word “but” as to “but Bush and the Republicans also spent, gave amnesty or whatever the complaint”, you need to treat them the SAME way you would if someone tried to qualify condemnation of a terrorist nation with a litany of America’s past sins.
There is a time and a place for “honesty”, but grown ups understand that we can be selective in our honesty. It doesn’t make us less honest, just intelligent enough to know that honesty HAS consequences.

Truly Stupid Moves

Saturday, September 13th, 2008

I am amazed and yet somehow not surprised at the truly stupid moves being played by the media.

And no, I do not apply this critique just to those on the Left.

Bill O’Reilly is supposed to be the attack dog; the champion of the consumer.  He broke into the public eye after going after the charities that was withholding donations to the WTC widows and children.  Since then, he has moved toward trying to straddle the middle, claiming to be neither Right or Left…and in so doing, has lost credibility.  Standing for “no spin” means sometimes standing on the Right, even if you do it 9 out of 10 times.   It doesn’t mean you have to divide your “spin” so that there are an even amount of times you stand on each side.

**O’Reilly Stupid Move 1 : The day after his “big” interview with the elusive answering Obama, O’Reilly ran a talking point, telling the listener that the Right was making a big deal out of Obama’s lipstick remark because such a remark would be political suicide.  Obviously it wasn’t about Palin as that would mean that Obama was stupid and no one would claim that Obama is that dumb.

O’Reilly ignores another possibility: Obama is arrogant.  And THAT is a claim that people would make about Obama.  Arrogant enough to believe that only the sophisticated would get his lipstick “joke”; that the back handed hicks would probably think being called a pig was a compliment.

**O’Reilly’s Stupid Move 2: The next day’s “talking points” advised Palin to be a “bigger person” and take Obama’s word that he wasn’t insulting her–and move on.

I find this disingenuous in the extreme.  For years, the Talk Show Mafia has complained about GW Bush’s refusal to hit back when the MSM attacked him unfairly; his Christian turning the other cheek and taking the high road drove them nuts. The only way to insure that McCain / Palin isn’t subject to 4 to 8 years of media bashing from BOTH sides of the aisle is for Palin to make every attack upon McCain, the party and herself PR expensive.  The beauty of Palin is that she CAN get away with it.

And no, don’t start with the “don’t play the gender card”.  We are at war or we’re not.  If it the former then you use whatever it takes to win.  The sad fact is that there is only ONE card that has any chance of trumping the race card, the card that represents one half of the population.  It is the card that releases McCain, Fred, Rudy and just about any GOP guy to attack Obama; they are after all, just “defending” their women…all women.

It plays and it’s driving Obama and company nuts. The GOP would be truly stupid to set it aside.

The Call to talk issues:

**Pundits and Radio Talk Shows Stupid Move 3: They are a growing number of “serious” political opinion makers who are calling for the GOP to get away from Palin’s personal life and focus on the issues.  They contend, as they did when they assured their “choir”, that when the GOP embraced their conservative ideals, they win.

I hate to break it to them but the lost of Congress and Romney’s failed run for high office was due to this one FACT: most Americans are NOT conservative…or liberal.  Most Americans are Independent that lean Left on some issues and Right on others.   Palin may appeal to the Right because she is a pro-life, pro-gun, tax cutting conservative but her great appeal is that she is (1) a woman, (2) a working mom trying to juggle a number of responsibilities, (3) a partner of a supportive REAL man, (4) attractive to an American Idol watching public, (5) supports the million plus military with their–at the very least–four million family and friends, (6) understands special needs challenges and rewards which INCLUDE not just children but the elderly that is growing older and requiring more support from a society that doesn’t seem to value their wisdom or their existance, (7) from a small town and a non-elite college.

EVERY TIME Palin is attacked, that is FREE time in the public eye.  It is an opportunity for Palin and her “men” to come out swinging and to tell the side of the Right.

**Pundit and TSM Stupid Move 4: Appearing to want to help Palin, these seasoned entertainers have begun to “advise” Palin on how to handle the attack of the MSM.

First of all, in telling Palin how to correct her behavior, the TSM ends up pointing out Palin’s “mistakes” and flaws–giving fodder to the MSM.  They REALLY need to sit back and watch.  Palin and whoever is advising her is doing a masterful job in handling the media and Obama’s gang.

If they must, absolutely must get involved, I suggest they use all their talent and whatever influence they believe they have to do what they did in 2004 when they were actually trying to keep the WH in GOP’s hands and thus win the War on Terror: provide a counter point to the Bush (now Palin) bashing MSM.

The Left also suffer from the “we are the only ones who count” syndrome.  As the TSM thinks that everyone is conservative, so too does the MSM believe that everyone that counts thinks, believes, and acts like them.

**NOW the Left wants to put away all those cards (ie race, gender) and talk “issues” Stupid Move 5: After months of putting aside issues like qualifications and experience for looking cool and international, the MSM thinks that they can turn the issue card on the GOP.

This is a perfect case of the elite media not understanding their public.  Issues may be interesting to intellects that gather around the table to discuss what to do with “other” people’s lives but for the majority of people who know who won last season’s American Idol and what the shocking Super Bowl win/lost meant, the only issue that counts is what personally touches their lives…lost of jobs, cost of gas…even a war that is happening thousands of miles hold very little interest to a nation with an all volunteer military.

When you talk about how little experience Palin has and question if it is enough to be a heart beat away from the presidency, you better have someone with experience that isn’t subject to interpretation running for the top spot.  When you take delight in the pause of Palin’s response to the “Bush doctrine”, you had better hope that no one was watching or will google the net for an interview with an “um”, “ah”, “duh” Obama.

**Oprah Stupid Move 6: Oprah’s refusal to have Palin on her show told her majority female base that Oprah cared more about race than she did gender.

Oprah makes tons of money endorcing products that her legion of women buy just because Oprah said so.  No it’s not blind, mindless following; Oprah has managed to get a group of people to TRUST her.  She’s like them, a female in a man’s world–and every success was their success.  She took this trust seriously so that when she made a mistake, she came out and asked forgiveness (she was once conned into endorcing a book that turned out to be fiction) and of course her audience forgave her…she was one of them.

Now another woman has the opportunity to gain the highest office in the land and Oprah refuses to help.  She is solidly backing a man for no reason other than they share the same color of skin.  This may or may not be true–Oprah may truly believe in Obama’s ability to change the world–but the perception is that Oprah will not give a chance for another successful woman to be heard.

Oprah risks her base.  This is stupidity in the extreme.  But perhaps it is time.  The entertainment business has too long tried to muddle in government affairs as though their talent and their wealth makes their opinion relevant.

**Gibson’s Frown Stupid Move 7: Gibson got the interview of the moment; beating out O’Reilly’s Obama “confrontation”.  Unlike O’Reilly who at least pretended to be interested in Obama’s replies, Charles Gibson looked like he didn’t like Palin, didn’t believe her, and felt she was a waste of space.  His questions showed his contempt for her small town background, her non-elite education, and her motherhood.  He acted like a man who could not believe that this woman was seriously reaching for the second highest office in the land.

This was stupid on so many levels, I scarse no where to begin.  The very first thing that the viewer felt was the desire to defend Palin.  She was like a million moms who has gone into a school to discuss their child and ran up against patronizing and impatient school bureaucrats who couldn’t see how a mere mother could decide what was best for her child.

Then there was his sophomoric questions that was like low balls meant to walk a player off the field; giving no chance to hit a home run. He might as well have asked if Palin thought women should wear pants or heels.  “Do you agree with the Bush Doctrine???” How about, “How will the McCain/Palin doctrine differ from the Bush Doctrine?” or “You talk about change, exactly how would you change the status quo?” or even a “Do you actually think you can move this nation to energy independence without sacrificing World Trade?”

Or if you really want to know what she thinks, ask her “If you were to pick one person–not God, not dead–that you think is truly smart and someone that you might listen to, who would that person be?”

Questions like those would have given Palin the respect a V.P. nominee deserves–even if she is a woman, a mom, an ex beauty queen, ex jock, a soon to be grandmother.

And in so doing, given respect to the person doing the interview.

The Bush bashing continues:  Many in the media suspect that the day will come when Bush is validated as a good if not great president.  Many will forget that he didn’t say or do what they thought he should.  Like Reagan, old speech writers will remember that he did his primary job…to keep America from being attacked again and until Congress was lost in 2006, gave America her greatest economy in 50 years…and do a rewrite.

The only ones that will cling to the old Bush are the ones like those who protested Vietnam and continue to hold it as our greatest defeat and mistake.  Already, many of those who joined their Left counterpart are saying how they always liked Bush.  These pundits and TSM are hailing Palin as the reason for their forgiveness of McCain and how in that one act, McCain has redeem himself and come back to the “light”.

In this, the TSM on the Right is showing their own elitism.  The American public may have a short attention span and yes, they may not pay particular attention to the “serious” issues discussed around coffee tables.  But most Americans understand the concept of loyalty and trust and reasonable logic.

And what they’ve seen from both sides are very little.

In the end, they will take bits and pieces of what they’ve heard among the fighting chatter and make a choice.  Right now, this is what they know:

Obama: Black, Media and Oprah likes him…wife not proud of America…funny preacher and from Hawaii (that’s in America but not really IN America).

Biden: Some White guy.  Must be boring because haven’t heard anything about him.

McCain: POW in Vietnam, gorgeous wife, kids in Iraq, Right TSM hated him.  Old.

Palin: Lipstick hocky mom, mayor of small town, govenor of small state that no one visits–too cold, daughter pregnant, youngest is not perfect, good looking.  Drives Democrats nuts.  Oh yeah…wants to drill in her state so that my gas will go down.

Now if the media wants there to be more added in Palin’s paragraph, they need to (if you are MSM) stop giving her FREE moments of opportunity to sell the GOP ticket….(if you are TSM), TRUST someone other than yourselves to play the game. Palin is not just a natural, she is handled by people who rarely make truly stupid moves.

Palin Moves

Saturday, August 30th, 2008

I have liken Palin to a “White Queen” as in the chess piece of the side that moves first.

“First” because the GOP cannot afford to be reactionary and first because though cautious, the GOP must be seen to be offensive rather than defensive.

I was on my way to work when the announcement was made.  I told myself I’d allow ten minutes, top, to hear the beginning of her acceptance speech after McCain’s fine intro.  I ended up spending an additional ten…and the rest of the day catching bits and pieces.

Now, I have spent most of my life, first on a personal level and then professionally, learning to decipher people’s moods and interests.  A side effect of all this is a habit–frustrating and annoying–to critique other people’s “moves” on the chess board of life and work.

I’m not quite sure who handles Palin.  I don’t know if she’s just a natural.  But this much I am certain…we are watching a MASTER player, a Tiger Wood of politics; someone that reminds the rest of us that there are exceptionals out there: jaw dropping, head shaking, creatures that are truly the best.

In the next few days, you will hear all about Palin…about her accomplishments and her beliefs…but know this, for MOST John and Jane Q Public, NONE of that will matter as much as what their perception of her will be.

The following is a list of “moves” that will probably not be mentioned for the elite media (both sides) has failed to understand the ordinary people and the difference between the ideal and the practical that truly dictates the reaction of the public

1- Palin’s “common” pedigree:  teachers and union workers are supposed to be the “pawns” of the Left.  Palin’s PROUD mention of her parents and her husband and their contribution to our nation made Michelle Obama’s pity party for the “poor” educators and workers look petty and ungrateful.  For the majority of Americans who don’t get several vacations a year and $45 an hour, this was a breath of fresh air.  For those who HAVE braved unruly kids and built this nation, it was a reminder that they HAVE made a difference.

And pride always feels better than bitter pity.

2- Palin’s love and pride in her eldest son’s military service made every military family and friend sit up straight.  It doesn’t matter if you hate the war and hate GW Bush; the fact is the service man or woman is SOMEBODY’S kid, loved one, friend and every time some politician wants to pull a Vietnam shame on them, they offend everyone connected to that military person.

More–there is a certain amount of guilt that most Americans carry.  About Vietnam and the way we treated the returning troops, yes, but also because John and Jane Q Public KNOW deep down that these are the guys that keep THEIR world safe.

Palin told the American public that it was ok.  That she and McCain was PROUD that their sons were that special breed of Americans that willingly put it all on the line for those that choose to take the civilian path.

When she reminded the public that McCain understood first hand what war and terror was…and then paused to tell the crowd that as a mother of one of the troops sent to fight that threat to our American way of life, she wanted one man–McCain to be Commander in Chief, I had to sit down and give her another 5 minutes that would make me late for work.

This was so smooth…such beautiful timing…wow.

3- She went on to talk about McCain and how much he has had to endure from all sides in his bid for the presidency. But instead of appealing for fairness and equal fawning from an obviously Obama biased media, she looked the camera straight in the eye and warned that McCain now has a partner and that the two of them had a reputation for taking on the establishment.

And every Conservative saw a king and a queen piece ready to bring this nation back to THEIR kind of America.  And every Moderate and Independent heard someone who was willing to take on their own party to take care of their interests and concerns.

I wrote earlier that I had originally pushed for glamourous Palin because of her appeal to the American Idol watching public and how she had floored me with her new mature “kick butt” mom look.

Her entire appeal was one of a working mom and wife juggling between job and family–and she connected with almost everyone, including the husbands, who like Todd has had to move into the supportive role.  The excitement she created was incredible…from pro-lifers to second ammendment advocates to sports fans.  She had done the political impossibility…be all things to almost all people.

But the White Queen was not finished.  Well to be honest, I had to leave and didn’t catch this until the middle of the work day.

4- Just when I thought she couldn’t make any more “moves”, she said:

I think as well today of two other women who came before me in national elections. I can’t begin this great effort without honoring the achievements of Geraldine Ferraro in 1984, and, of course, Sen. Hillary Clinton, who showed such determination and grace in her presidential campaign.

It was rightly noted in Denver this week that Hillary left 18 million cracks in the highest, hardest glass ceiling in America. But it turns out the women of America aren’t finished yet, and we can shatter that glass ceiling once and for all.

I bowed my head and smiled. “CHECK”

Wow–the truth behind the illegal immigration issue

Friday, March 7th, 2008

Hugh Hewitt comes on after Michael Medved and once in awhile, I catch a few minutes of his show.  Today, I allowed a little extra time because Karl Rove was his guest and I wanted to hear what this political genius had to say.

Somewhere in the interview about Obama and McCain, Rove said that in almost every speaking engagement, someone brings up the illegal immigration issue–and faults the lost of Congress on Bush’s adminstration’s failure to “secure the borders”.

Of course Hewitt was in total agreement, but Rove asked the same question he has asked everyone who has brought up the topic.  “How many illegals do you think this adminstration has deported since 2002 (after 9/11)?”  To be perfectly honest, I don’t know what Hewitt answered because he sort of did a “I’m a party guy” without being supportive (those who have heard Hewitt knows what I mean).  But Rove went on to say that most people answer, “around a hundred”.  One guy gave the answer “100,000″ to howls of laughter by the audience.

Karl Rove then gave the real answer: 1.3 million.  Yep that MILLION with a “M”.

He told Hugh about the triple budget increase for border control…quad increase in border guards and staff…and 12 times the amount of holding areas for illegals.

“I know,” he told Hugh, “what you and many of your radio talk show friends have been saying, but facts are facts.  THIS adminstration has done more in 7 years than the 30 plus years this nation has been dealing with illegals.”

I immediately called and asked a colleague the same question.  He had complained bitterly about this president and blamed the lost of Congress on Bush’s failure to secure the borders.  When I gave him the number he was silent.  Finally he said, “Wow, that’s a lot.”  He sounded young and a bit shaken.  He loved Hewitt, Ingraham, Rush, Hannity, Prager…the whole talk show mafia.

“Who gave you that number?”  When I told him Karl Rove, he asked what Hewitt had replied.  I told him the truth, that I don’t really know because I didn’t understand Hewitt’s answer.

“1.3 million,” he said again, “Wow.”

The Flawless Diamond

Saturday, February 23rd, 2008

In every group I have ever become involved in, there is almost always a period where a number of people will try to put down specific rules that end up alienating almost everyone.  This happened with radio talk show, discussion groups, and is now happening with ”grass roots” internet bloggers.

Before we get into the rant, let me first explain the why.

I am an observer; it is part of the tools I use to determine the target market of products being pushed.

In the case of the people on the Right and the “product” of conservatism, most have never been part of the inner circle in school, on the play ground, in any social environment.  This is primarily due to their lack of being “average” or should I say, their uniqueness.  People that lean Right in ideology tend to see the whole picture not just the flavor of the month.  They are frequently the first (and only) one to say, “but why?”  The socialist accept and as such are more likely to be accepted.

For many on the Right, talk show and forums like Townhall was their first real venture into the world of social fellowship.  It is literally as though they were in a foreign land and came across one and then dozens of people who spoke English!

At first, it’s a party and life is full of intellectual stimulation.  They end up spending hours blogging, chatting during what should be family time and then checking emails during reports and presentations.

Eventually, someone remembers the great Liberal accomplishments, tasks only possible through unification of the masses.  Imagine what could be done if we combined the intelligence and talent of OUR people…!

And they start to “suggest” and one rule is laid down…followed by another…until words like “real” and “true” start to creep into the body of emails and post.

They do not understand the market.

People on the Right and those who lean toward that ideology are by nature strong and independent.  In order to do what the Left does, you need one or two strong people…and a whole bunch of people willing to follow.

For far too long, the TSM (talk show mafia) has pulled a Liberal on their listeners.  I have said over and over that the GOP would be sent to the political wilderness unless these people are taken down.  It looks like this is finally happening.

Not a moment too soon is my heartfelt belief.

In it’s place seems to be growing an effort to unite and “do what Obama’s people do”.

First off, Obama’s people isn’t the grass root, pajama blogger trying to spread the word across the net.  Obama has Oprah for God’s sake.  And half of people who make Romney’s check book look silly.  We couldn’t “do” what Obama’s people do if we tried.

Second, the TSM has tried the guilt, the exclusion, and then the threat thing.  It DIDN’T work for Romney.  I am known as the person to see if something absolutely has to be done.  My “services” comes with a price tag…I don’t do “push” well.  Tell me what you want and IF I agree, leave me alone to do it.  Treat me like an adult that you trust to get the task accomplished or go see a kid that you can micro-manage.

Third, in the world of retail, the jewel, the “flawless diamond” is the consumer “word of mouth”.  A quarter of a century ago, a little film trailer ran before some movies in the theater; they did not run t.v. ads.  It was different…kinda fun…and some people who like that sort of thing, went to see it.  Five or Six sequels later, Star Wars continues to make zillions for George Lucas.  How did this phenomenon occur?

Word of mouth.

In this, the net is tailor made.

Fourth, it is HUGELY tempting to UNITE unknown little bloggers.  Look what they did to Dan Rather and the MSM.  The problem comes when uniters keep trying to be like their failed counter parts instead of customizing the product to fit their unique market.

Most blogs on the Right are a fiefdom unto their own.  They love being agreed with and quoted; some even enjoy great disagreements and discussions.  They will write reams and reams of post if encouraged and comment on tons of other blogs to continue the network.

But they will not be dictated to.  Not even for “uniformity” or “professionalism”.  Most are like the small time preacher, who would love a large white stone building to give their sermons but would be happy enough to preach on the street if they could avoid asking for donations.

Once upon a time, most of us had one overwhelming focus…9/11 and making sure that it never happens again.  We were one nation then and when half forgot or rather, put their influence before the good of the nation, the TSM was only too happy to keep hammering away the message.

But some where along the line, Rush, Hannity, Ingraham, Hewitt put ratings above the safety of this nation and joined the MSM in bashing the only man the terrorists feared.

In February of 2008, McCain and the REAL Republicans and practical Independents took back the GOP.

Let us not, in March of the same year tearing it apart.

Let us remember who and what we are.  Small time preachers happy to spread the word of McCain and his determination to win the War on Terror.  We can do this without asking for donations to the cause…if you leave us alone, we will GIVE you the most precious gift we have, the flawless diamond known as word of mouth.

“Give me a reason to vote for McCain

Sunday, February 17th, 2008

…and stopping Obama and Hilary isn’t good enough” so says the anti-McCain left without a candidate to vote for.

How’s this?

EAR MARKS & PORK SPENDING

Conservatives have spent eons complaining about run away government spending.  They haven’t even excused the fact that we are at war and never before has a government been expected to keep taxes low, the economy strong AND hold spending during war time.

If government spending; earmarks and pork barrel is your issue, you have 3 options this election: Hilary 300 MILLION plus earmarks…Obama 80 MILLION plus (he’s been in office only 3 years so give him time)…and McCain: ZERO.

ENTITLEMENT PROGRAMS

McCain has been notoriously known to be against any type of government entitlement programs.  He even voted against Bush’s tax cuts because they did not include SPENDING CUTS. Conservatives, not liking tight fiscal fisted McCain, can vote for Hilary who didn’t see a tax she didn’t want to spend and Obama, who has admitted to not quite understanding how it all works, but has a dream–with a price tag yet to be determined.

PRO-LIFE & THE COURTS

Conservatives that care about the destruction of millions of unborn babies know what a few people sitting on the highest court of the land can do.  The next person sitting in the White House will pick anywhere from 3 to 6 new judges that will either cement Roe vs. Wade or throw that issue back to the people.  Those judges will also either find rights to gay marriages or uphold individual property rights.  They will maintain the intent of the 2nd ammendment or redefine it.

Again, 3 options: Hilary and Obama maintains a “right to abortion” and “gay rights”.  McCain was pro-life before Reagan, Bush I, and Romney changed their minds.

PRINCIPLES

Conservatives take pride in their determination in standing for their principles should admire McCain.  This is a man that has taken stands that wasn’t always popular or easy.  At times, he has had to go up against Monday night political quarterbacks who has never been in the game and don’t really know what was said in the huddle.

“Thumb his finger at the base” has been leveled at everyone who didn’t do the popular thing.

Conservatives can either vote for Hilary and Obama that can be swayed by the popular vote or McCain who isn’t afraid to stand on HIS principles, even if he has to stand alone.

CHARACTER

We’ve all heard the rumors about the 3 choices’ character; most bad.  Conservatives may not necessarily condemn the bad nor be impressed with the good.  There is one “good” that I think hasn’t had enough play but may give “a reason to vote for McCain” if you’re the sort of person that goes in for endorsement and recommendations: McCain and his wife was asked by Mother Theresa (yep, the near saint to most Christians and humanitarians) to adopt one of her orphans. ‘Nuff said.

TROOPS

A complaint leveled at Bush was his non-combat experience.  Even though Kerry didn’t have a wife, especially one that was worth billions, at the time of his service, it was assumed that Bush’s lack of combat experience wouldn’t allow him to understand the psyche of the military for which he was Commander in Chief…nor empathize with the plight of a military family.

McCain, of course, can put up his over 2 decades in the military against Obama’s and Hilary’s zero service (the latter two didn’t even serve in the guard).

McCain understands military command, loyalty, trust, honor.  McCain spent years in a prisoner hell hole, refusing to leave his men…he doesn’t just comprehend torture; McCain understands a soldier’s ability to withstand what a civilian would consider unbearable cruelty.

McCain has EARNED the vote of every American, but would never demand it.

The War

Conservatives, with the exception of the Ron Paulites, understand that we can get it wrong on everything else but the war.

It doesn’t matter if we went to war because of faulty intelligence…it doesn’t matter if it’s all Israel’s fault.

When 9/11 dragged a self centered nation into the world of terrorism, ALL bets were off.  No truer words were said as that of Bush when he told the world that there are two sides…terrorists and ours.  You stand with them or you stand with us.

Period.

Conservatives can either stand with Hilary who changes the line upon the winds of public opinion, Obama who denies the line between them and us exists or should ever exist…and McCain, who knows exactly where that line is at all times–and has assured the terrorist and their allies what will happen to them if they cross it again.

Their Achilles Heel

Monday, February 11th, 2008

Part of the job of anyone that has been in retail is the ability to read marketing trends and to anticipate public taste and interest.Following, is my take on the consumer (public) view of the players in the 2008 presidential election stage.

Hilary

While it is true that Hilary appeals to many women who would like to see a female in the top spot of the nation, there is a large portion of women that resent the fact that Hilary remained with her cheating husband. On top of that, are the men who have secretly resented the position feminist have put them in; they are expected to be caring, protective, and yet at the same time almost subservient to their female counterpart.Fair or not, men will equate Hilary with powerful women that have made them feel if not inadequate, confused.

Hilary actually hit upon the one ploy that would help her. She cried. Her breakdown, real or contrived, painted her as female and allowed women everywhere to empathize with her, yes even with her taking back her cheating husband. Each time Bill comes forward to fight for her, men everywhere thinks…see? in the end, she NEEDS a man.

Obama

Obama is extremely dangerous because he is young, charismatic, good looking, and idealistic. He is a Martin Luther King/ JFK wannabe that sees the world through 60s rose colored glasses. He is a politician that wants more than a footnote in history. He is the one person I fear to occupy the White House because frankly, we cannot afford to change the world when we are so close to seeing it go up in Jihad smoke.

But I am betting on three things. Two, I admit here and now, makes me extremely nervous because they are things that depend on people—and people can and do frequently do the most surprising of things.

1-Most people haven’t forgotten 9/11.Most know that we are at war…and that perhaps the only thing that has kept us safe is the fear terrorists have for GW Bush. They could afford to give Congress to the Liberals…but they won’t allow a man that has clearly stated his intention to cut and run become Commander In Chief of the world’s most powerful military.

2-People are getting a wee bit tired of apologizing for America’s slavery, civil unrest past. It is one thing to celebrate a charismatic preacher every January; quite another to be reminded of the whole racial thing every time our leader has a press conference.

3-Hilary has waited her entire life to be president of the U.S. She will not

allow Obama to take the top spot. She and Bill will call in all their favors

and the top Dems will fall in line. And if that fails, well remember that a

number of people that have crossed the Clintons have simply disappeared.

Obama needs to keep his MLK/JFK persona going. The minute he is perceived as a Black man in a White world or a man that is too young and too inexperienced to lead the nation in war time, he’s in trouble.

Huckabee

One of the things people complained about G.W. was his strong Christian faith,Oh, don’t get me wrong. I’m a Christian and I believe that most Americans attend church and believe in a higher entity. But I think Americans feel uncomfortable with the idea of a preacher of any religion becoming the most important man in the world—with his finger on the button no less.

Huckabee is also seen as a hick, small town guy, something that won’t resonate with millions of people who like to think of themselves as chic and sophisticated.

To win, Huckabee has to lose his “aw shucks ma’am” veneer. He has to inspire without coming off as a dreamer. Most of all, Huckabee has to stop making promises that he knows he can’t deliver…like the rounding up and deportation of 12 million illegals in 120 days.

McCain

Now I have come to admire the man. In fact, I am rather upset with him because I have spent the last 8 years admiring and caring about G.W. and I thought I was done with believing about a politician the TSM was intent on destroying.

The fact is the more I have learned about McCain, the closer he comes to hitting all the check boxes of a great leader—and the angrier I get at the TSM for doing to him what they’ve done to Bush.
But this is about the players’ Achilles heels, so let me tell you about McCain’s.
The guy lacks public speaking charisma. He says “thank you” ten times too many. And he stops his comments in mid sentence, making the audience want to get on to the end of his speech, which for a politician is NEVER good.

If I could advise McCain, I’d tell him to limit ANY phrase to 2 MAX times. I’d tell him to cut the jokes and just be straight with the people. Tell them these are serious times…for the soldier in Iraq…for a family trying to make ends meet…for the long time workers watching their 401k dance on an economy. Tell them that people are living longer and social security is getting thinner. Tell them that the only thing that is standing between a 9/11 for the world is America’s military and the only thing that is standing between support for that military is a party that understands war and a party that pretends that war doesn’t exist.

I’d advise McCain to talk like he’s already won the GOP ticket and begin his battle with the Dems.

Tomorrow, or as time permits, I will continue with the TSM…Rush, Hewitt, Hannity, Ingraham, and the NRO.
